Houston has more than just city and nightlife—there are plenty of gorgeous hiking trails for when you feel the need to commune with the great outdoors come upon you! Here are five local trails near our West Houston apartments that’ll help you get a peaceful and natural vibe going on.

Buffalo Bayou Park

Buffalo Bayou Park, located just outside downtown Houston, offers a 4.8-mile loop where you can run, hike, or bike. Enjoy spectacular skyline views and a paved trail that extends through the Park for 15 miles. Skateboarders will enjoy the Lee & Joe Jamail skatepark, a 30,000 square foot facility overlooking Buffalo Bayou.

Memorial Park

West of downtown Houston, Memorial Park is home to a tennis center, outdoor pool, and fitness center, as well as a loop trail of gravel paths and wooded areas. This magnificent park is just steps away from 7 Square and provides a tranquil respite from city life.

Houston Arboretum

Nature is the star of the show at the Houston Arboretum. It features many different trails, including a bird-watching trail and a wildflower trail. The five-mile network of trails is bound to have something for everyone. There are many programs available to enjoy as well, including an “Arboretum by Night” event, where visitors can interact with nocturnal wilderness.

White Oak Bayou Trail

Extending nearly 17 miles, the White Oak Bayou trail is one of the longest continuous hiking trails in Houston. The hike and bike trail extends north of Antoine Drive and the Buffalo Bayou Greenway Trail, running parallel with the bayou and T. C. Jester Boulevard. It’s quite a gem!

Terry Hershey Hike and Bike Trail

Another trail located in the Memorial neighborhood, the Terry Hershey Hike and Bike Trail is perfect for a hike close to downtown. Paved paths and bridges meander along the banks of the Buffalo Bayou along this green, tree-lined trail.
